Nice print portfolio of Aled Williams. I really like how he creates patterns and textures out of logos or tying into the project's identity, often used on the back of business cards or printed material. Below are my two favorite projects of his - rebrand of Boomerang+PLC and Blossom.

New Work: CINE 2010 Gala
By Karey in Design, Print, Washington DC, byKAs promised in a previous post, above and below are some higher quality images taken from CINE's 2010 Gala at the French Embassy, showing various bits of my design work. The images give a more cohesive look at the summer design theme used in the Gala book, ticket invitations, podium sign, on screen reel.
View and read about the design details.

New Work: CINE 2010 Gala Book
By Karey in Print, Washington DC, byKApologies for the grainy image, high resolution pictures to come soon, but wanted to go ahead and post some pics I snagged with my iPhone last night at the Embassy of France for CINE's annual Gala. The event itself was a wonderful evening, and I personally was so excited to see my print work for CINE finally come together for the night. The gala books above give a general idea of the design theme - a summer drive-in theater, which was carried through for the book, event signs, on screen reel, tickets (view earlier post), and web graphics.
Below are some flat JPGs of the book graphics, hopefully large enough to see some of the fun details incorporated (ie: license plate reads 'GLDN EGL' for the CINE Golden Eagle award). I really enjoyed designing for different formats and broadening my experience in print work, as well as breaking away from my fairly typically minimalist aesthetic and trying a new approach - which I'm lucky that CINE gives me these opportunities.
New Work: CINE 2010 Gala Ticket
By Karey in Illustrator, Print, byKCINE's annual Gala is coming up in a few weeks, and I've been frantically working on loads of print material and an award reel for the event. While it hasn't all yet hit the printer (and we've just begun the reel, eek!), the invitations for the Gala were hot off the press today. Needlesstosay, I am thrilled to start seeing the event material take shape and in my hand! The last few months I've really been upping my amount of print work on top of my usual web services, and it really is a nice feeling having a physical product outside of virtual world.
The invitations are 5" by 7" and mimic a literal ticket. The colors and design tie into a summery theme we are doing for the event, in which the drive in theater is our main inspiration. Not sure if the image does the colors justice, but I'll try to snap some more pics in the near future. I really think the invites, and all print work for the Gala, will look best all together.

New Work: The Rock Barn (Identity)
By Karey in Logo, Print, byKThis week I completed an identity package for The Rock Barn (TRB), a Virginia based full service catering company. The goal was to create a sophisticated yet humble presence using characteristics from TRB's thoughtful and creative personality. The new logo directly plays of TRB's slogan 'Field-to-Fork' by incorporating grass blades as the prongs of a fork, while using the Philosopher font for the initials and text. Important aspects of the logo include scalability, readability, and individuality. Below is the final identity package (not included the catering van graphics) as well as a set of variations of the logo. Look out for an upcoming website as well!
Sculptivate by Root
By Karey in Design, Logo, Print, WebPerhaps my fondest memory of Architecture School is my love affair with the laser cutter. When I came across the branding of Sculptivate by London based Root, I literally jumped for joy. To create the identity for the design and build agency for environments, Root pushed Play Doh through a stencil. The identity has been carried through across all platforms, digital and print, resulting in a very memorable and unique identity. Hopefully when the big bucks start rolling in (fingers crossed!), I can purchase my own laser cutter and re-do/re-vamp by business cards from 2007, or make my own laser cutter . . . . . luckily I have a few stacks left!
Mag+
By Karey in Design, Print, ProductInteresting video on a prototype that could transform the future of magazines into a portable tablet. While the project eliminates clutter, paper waste, and still retains the idea of issues; will readers be willing to give up the tactile aspect of collecting favorite issues, tearing out a captivating picture/article, or displaying a collection in their home? While I have yet to consider reading a book digitally, tablet magazines does is in fact appeal to me. Perhaps with the continuous rise of blogs and digitalization of information, this new tool will in fact give magazines a lasting chance.
