New Work: CINE Fall 2010 Call for Entries

By Karey in Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, byK

Fall-2010-Call-For-Entries-600

Quick graphic created for CINE's Fall 2010 Call for Entries. The image was created in Photoshop and Illustrator, utilizing various leaf stock images. An Autumn theme marks a new competition season and differentiates against this summer's gala work for CINE. The graphic is used on CINE's website (which I maintain) and newsletter materials.

New Work: CINE 2010 Gala Ticket

By Karey in Illustrator, Print, byK

CINE's annual Gala is coming up in a few weeks, and I've been frantically working on loads of print material and an award reel for the event. While it hasn't all yet hit the printer (and we've just begun the reel, eek!), the invitations for the Gala were hot off the press today. Needlesstosay, I am thrilled to start seeing the event material take shape and in my hand! The last few months I've really been upping my amount of print work on top of my usual web services, and it really is a nice feeling having a physical product outside of virtual world.

The invitations are 5" by 7" and mimic a literal ticket. The colors and design tie into a summery theme we are doing for the event, in which the drive in theater is our main inspiration. Not sure if the image does the colors justice, but I'll try to snap some more pics in the near future. I really think the invites, and all print work for the Gala, will look best all together.

New Work: CINE Graphic (TV)

By Karey in Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, byK

CINE-tv-screening

Completed a quick graphic today for DC based CINE. They wanted an image to advertise the closing of entries for their Spring 2010 Film and Video competition. The final image plays off the idea of CINE judges getting ready to view the entrants' films and for entrants to 'stay tuned' for results and competition updates. Below are additional graphics I have done for CINE over the past year. Graphics made in Illustrator and Photoshop. (NOTE: The eagle siloutte used in all the graphics corresponds to their Golden Eagle award and trophy.)

New Work: NMS booth graphic

By Karey in Illustrator, Photoshop, Print, byK

National Medical Solutions asked be to design a graphic for a booth display at an upcoming convention. Below is my design, in which I super imposed in Photoshop two different surgeon images to achieve their preferred surgery room aesthetic and appropriate doctor attire. Lastly, I used the Illustrator Opacity Mask to achieve the gradient effects and color scheme.

CINE Call for Entries – Deadline Extended

By Karey in Illustrator, Photoshop, Print, Web, byK

Yesterday, I revised a prior graphic I did for non-profit CINE. They recently extended their fall 2009 competition deadline to September 1st. Using their 'mascot' Golden Eagle, I added a flying eagle silhouette taken from the actual trophy, pulling along a banner announcing the deadline extension.

I am also in the midst of redesigning and developing their full website, so check back for CINE updates!

Illustrator Curtain

By Karey in Illustrator, Tutorial

Red Curtain
Begin with a red rectangle. Use mesh tool to create folds adding a darker color. I also created a one-ended gradient in the lower right side to give a stronger lighting effect.

Red Curtain
Continue over entire the entire rectangle. Use control points to give curvature in folds. I pulled one side of the curtain to the right to give a 'view' backstage.

Red Curtain
I added a little creeper for scale! He later adapted in the final version to a more realistic person.

I needed a image of a red theater curtain for a graphic I was working on, and luckily stumbled across this Illustrator tutorial. Lately I've been working on my Illustrator and Photoshop skills in particular, and find a great deal of the online tutorials very helpful in gaining a broader knowledge of the programs. Check out the screen shots of the process of my curtain above, which I later customized more afterward to fit the design more specifically.
