New Work: CINE Fall 2010 Call for Entries

By Karey in Design, Illustrator, Photoshop, byK

Fall-2010-Call-For-Entries-600

Quick graphic created for CINE's Fall 2010 Call for Entries. The image was created in Photoshop and Illustrator, utilizing various leaf stock images. An Autumn theme marks a new competition season and differentiates against this summer's gala work for CINE. The graphic is used on CINE's website (which I maintain) and newsletter materials.

Read about the redesign and development of CINE's website, see print work for the non-profit, or view more competition graphics.

Crayon & Concrete Rings

By Karey in Design, Fashion

Loving the juxtaposition of crayon and concrete rings - a battle between temporary and permanent. One bringing out my inner child screaming for me to color the walls, while the other makes concrete and stainless steel so beautifully fashionable. Crayon Rings by Timothy Liles and Concrete Rings by 22 Design Studio.

Bernat Fortet

By Karey in ActionScript, Computer Graphics, Design, Photography

Digging the work of digital creative Bernat Fortet. Most of his work focusing on CG and Graphic Design, though I prefer his Flash experiments and photography (an example of each below). Be sure to check out the independent NodalGenesis project site to test out Bernat's interactive generative Flash artwork.

As promised in a previous post, above and below are some higher quality images taken from CINE's 2010 Gala at the French Embassy, showing various bits of my design work. The images give a more cohesive look at the summer design theme used in the Gala book, ticket invitations, podium sign, on screen reel.

Julie Krakowski

By Karey in Artist, Design, Fashion

Brussels based French textile designer Julie Krakowski draws inspiration from everyday accidents such as cigarrette burns and coffee spills, to the molting and shedding of skin. One collection pulls from the uncontrolled nature of rust, creating an ambiguous play between fashion and trash, change and sublimation. Be sure to check out Krakowski's website and select images below.

Laser Suit

By Karey in Design, Fashion, Installation

laser-suit-01

Loving this stage suit by Wei-Chieh Shih made of 200 laser diode (proper terminology?) and nylon fabric. Though I can't find a description on how it works or is operated, I believe the pictures below give a great idea of how the suit really takes on a life of its own on stage. Found on SpaceInvading. View Wei-Chieh Shih's portfolio on Behance (ps: notice his custom Behance url . . . cute).

Found Functions

By Karey in Design, Environment, Life

found-functions-01

Interesting collection of images by RIT student Nikki Graziano that examine mathematical functions found in nature. I personally find mathematical patterns in the natural environment fascinating from studying them in Architectural school. If you are interested in researching more, definitely check out The Self Made Tapestry: Pattern Formation in Nature by Philip Ball. View more of Graziano's images below:

Laser Cut Jewelry

By Karey in Design, Fashion

laser-cut-jewelry

As a former architecture student, I used to use the school's laser cutter for more than just studio projects, including jewelry. Unfortunately, no longer in school nor working in the architecture field, so I lack access to a laser cutter or any CNC technology. Therefor I opt to other designers for laser cut jewelry. Below are a few of my favorites, all of whom have taken their designs, materials, and processes far beyond what I ever did! Be sure to read about their processes and inspirations on each designer's website.

Can't remember if I first saw these online or on television, but either way I'm always mesmerized by both the campaign and the execution. DVEIN is a motion and interactive studio based in Barcelona, responsible for the five Think Again videos for National Geographic. If you haven't seen them before be sure to check a few out below or them all on Vimeo. Also, view DVEIN's creative and intuitive Flash website where you can view their full portfolio.
