Adobe After Effects 101

By Karey in After Effects, Application, Resource, Tutorial

Might be doing a bit of dabbling in Adobe After Effects for a current project, or at the very least need an understanding of best practices for constructing Photoshop and Illustrator files to be used in After Effects. Therefore, I've been watching/reading some introduction tutorials, in particular those by Adobe Instructor Chad Perkins. Found the video tutorial below on Adobe TV, and if you go to the video's original location you can view more episodes for learning After Effects CS4.

In addition, found this great Adobe help file regarding Preparing and importing Photoshop files for After Effects.

Found Functions

Interesting collection of images by RIT student Nikki Graziano that examine mathematical functions found in nature. I personally find mathematical patterns in the natural environment fascinating from studying them in Architectural school. If you are interested in researching more, definitely check out The Self Made Tapestry: Pattern Formation in Nature by Philip Ball. View more of Graziano's images below:

Laser Cut Jewelry

By Karey in Design, Fashion

As a former architecture student, I used to use the school's laser cutter for more than just studio projects, including jewelry. Unfortunately, no longer in school nor working in the architecture field, so I lack access to a laser cutter or any CNC technology. Therefor I opt to other designers for laser cut jewelry. Below are a few of my favorites, all of whom have taken their designs, materials, and processes far beyond what I ever did! Be sure to read about their processes and inspirations on each designer's website.

Recycled M&M Wrapper Dress

By Karey in Environment, Fashion

m-and-m-dress

For Earth Day's upcoming 40th anniversary, Terracyle commissioned Chicago couture designer Christina Liedtke to design a dress for TerraCycle’s Green Up Shop's short term showcase for the company's upcycled products. Liedtke, inspired by the pop-up shop's spring theme, created a one of a kind dress from 600 recycled Peanut M&M wrappers which make up more than 1,800 individually cut and sewn flowers. The entire process took over 100 hours of labor and depicts the idea of flowers in bloom. The middle portrays a "landscape of blooming poopies" and "the bottom of the dress expresses a collage of fully bloomed mature flowers."

Check out the dress at TerraCycle's Green Up Shop by the corner of 41st St. and 8th Avenue in Manhattan from now until early May. Found on Ecouterre.
